Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Wednesdays, Feb. 19 - April 9, 4:00-5:45 pm

MBSR was one of the earliest, and is now the most widespread, mindfulness or meditation programs to make its way into the mainstream American medical community. It was pioneered by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, and colleagues in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. In 1993, Bill Moyers featured Jon Kabat-Zinn's Stress Reduction Clinic in his series Healing and the Mind. Since 1979, over 20,000 people have completed the program at UMASS, and it has spread to hundreds of hospitals across the country and around the world.

About the 8 week program:
There will be a $30 materials fee to cover a workbook with an audio CD of guided mindfulness practices, and other handouts.
Starting February 19, we will meet from 4:00 – 5:45 pm each Wednesday. After the 5th class, we will have an all-day retreat on Saturday, March 22, from 9:00 – 4:30.  Preregistration will be required (limited to 20 participants).  Participants will be asked to try to practice mindfulness for a minimum of 15-20 minutes most days, and to attend all classes plus the daylong retreat.  (The typical cost in the East Bay is about $300 - $500 for the class. If you are interested in learning more, please plan to attend an orientation session at 4:00 – 5:45 on February 5, which will be open to all with no further commitment needed.
