Sibley Park Hike

Description: Explore geologic and human history on a 3-4 mile hike in Sibley Geologic Preserve. And possibly mating and breeding newts as well. Not flat but small elevation changes. (Those who want to can skip the short hill down to the labyrinth and the newt breeding grounds, and instead observe that from a distance.) Good views west to the Bay and east to Mt Diablo.
WhenSaturday, March 510:30 am-1:00 pm
Where: Sibley Regional Park, on Skyline Drive near Grizzly Peak Drive in the Oakland hills. Meet at the visitor display near the parking lot.
Directions: From Hwy 13 take Park Ave exit in Oakland, turn left onto Park, then left onto Mountain Blvd for two short blocks, then right onto Snake. Follow Snake up to Skyline Blvd. In order to stay on Snake (and not  end up on Shepherd Canyon) you'll need to make a left turn at just a short distance up Snake, about two blocks.
Bring: lunch, liquids and layered clothing for variable weather
Carpools: Respond to the Nature Walks forum if you need a ride and from where. (or write to Celeste at celesteburrows@sbcglobal.net) Also post (or write to Celeste) if you can provide a ride and from where. Carpools may be possible from Rockridge BART.
Transit: none yet
Weather: Significant rain cancels. In case of light rain or drizzle we may shorten the hike; and bring umbrella and rain gear.
Contact: for questions or RSVP contact Celeste at celesteburrows@sbcglobal.net.
Phone OK at 510-601-1211. Day of hike only, cell 510-277-5149 text preferred, but possibly no reception at trailhead.
