Alvarado Park & Wildcat Canyon Trails

Alvarado Park is a charming little gem with intriguing trails along Wildcat Creek with very little elevation gain. Adjacent to it is the northern end of Wildcat Canyon Regional Park with trails leading up the grassy and flower-covered hills past vernal pools to the ridge. From here there are good views of the Bay and Marin County. Audre Newman will lead.

If you prefer the more gentle option, we will drive (5 minutes) to the Alvarado Park trailhead from Monte Cresta. Volunteer Enid Pollack will lead this part of the walk.

When: Saturday, April 30, 2016: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Optional lunch together after the walk.

Where: Alvarado Park, Richmond, CA. Ideally it will take 20 minutes to drive from Ashby BART to Alvarado Park (see directions below)

Bring: Layered clothing for variable weather, good trail shoes; hiking poles if you use them on hikes, drinking water and sun protection.

Directions: "CHANGE IN TRAILHEAD FOR WILDCAT WALK SATURDAY,
APRIL 30, 11:00 AM:

We will start the walk at the Monte Cresta Trailhead in Wildcat Park.  If you want to use a GPS, put in 6329 Monte Cresta Dr., Richmond, CA.  Here is how to get there (Give yourself about 30 minutes from Ashby BART): Hwy 80 East to Exit San Pablo Dam Road (NOT Exit San Pablo); turn right onto San Pablo Dam Road.  Turn first right onto Morrow Dr.  Turn 2nd left onto Hillcrest Road; turn 2nd right onto Bonita Road; turn 4th left onto Monte Cresta. Park at the top of the street, or along the roadside.  Meet at the turnaround."

Carpools: If you can provide a ride, especially from North Berkeley BART or Rockridge BART, please post to the Nature Walks email forum. Also post to the forum if you need a ride and from where.

Weather: Real rain cancels. In case of drizzly or iffy weather bring umbrella and rain jacket. Bring walking poles if you use them on hikes.

Contact: To sign up, please respond to the forum or register on the Ashby Village Calendar. For questions, write to Audre Newman (audrenew@gmail.com) or phone 510-548-0530. On the day of the hike, try calling 510-990-2130, but don’t be surprised if you can’t get through due to poor cell phone coverage.
