Basics of Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be thought of as a particular way of paying attention: on purpose, in the present moment, and without judgment.

Recent research has shown that practicing mindfulness can improve immune function and cognition; increase brain mass and activity in areas associated with emotional control, happiness, and well-being; and reduce stress, anxiety, and even some of the effects of aging.

Jim French will present an introduction to the practice and benefits of mindfulness. You will be offered some simple mindfulness exercises, and there will be time for questions.

All residents are invited to join us for our presentations, which were planned by the Activities Committee of Emery Bunch. Donations at the events are gratefully accepted to cover the expenses.

About the Speaker:

Jim French began meditating in 1969 and has a Master’s Degree in Counseling. In recent years he has been teaching 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) classes at Ashby Village and elsewhere
