CANCELED for May 8

Nature Walk

Sunday, May 8 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.  All levels. Not wheelchair accessible

Location: We will meet in Redwood Regional Park at the Redwood Bowl Staging area parking lot, on Skyline Drive just north of the Roberts Recreation area.

Description: This 3+ mile hike is not flat, but it is beautiful. We will start at the Redwood Bowl Staging Area and head southeast on the West Ridge trail, passing briefly through the redwood forest that the park is famous for. After a mild up and down half mile, we will turn R onto Baccharis trail (mild downhill) for ¼ mile, then R again onto the Dunn trail for another mild downhill mile through pines and arching oaks and bay trees.  At the lowest point, we join the Graham trail and gradually (until the last ¼ mile) regain the altitude we’ve lost for 1 mile.  The last ¼ mile is a little steep.   The trail is well-maintained dirt the entire way.

Options of lesser and greater length are available for those who want more or less challenge, but the trail is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Directions: Hwy 13 south to Joaquin Miller Road exit. Go left at the stop sign to get on Juaquin Miller Rd.  Follow J. Miller Road and turn Left at the traffic light onto Skyline Drive.  Pass the Roberts Recreation Area entrance.  The Redwood Bowl Staging area parking lot is on the right (east) side, a few 100 yards south of (before) the entrance to Chabot Space & Science Center.

Heavy rain a day ahead or on the day cancels.  Bring poles if you use them, water, wind-breaker, snacks.  We may have dinner together at a nearby to-be-determined location after the walk.

Carpools: If you CAN DRIVE and take riders, please let everyone know by responding to this forum (not me directly) and indicate how far you are willing to go to pick up riders. Please include your phone number.

If you NEED A RIDE, please respond to this forum giving your cross streets and phone number, and then follow up with a person who is offering the ride.  Thanks for making this process easier.
