Join a dynamic group of individuals who enjoy sharing and discussing science-focused topics. Each month the group selects a new topic to focus on via their online email forum. Speakers and/or readings often support the lively discussions.
This month three members of the Science and Ideas group have offered to present scientific articles of their choosing. Their topics are:
EVOLUTION OF THE HORSE
....Gerry Abrams
We know that with the death of the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago, mammals started to flourish in the evolutionary gap that was created. The tiny mammalian creatures that emerged from the die-off bear scant resemblance to the handsome species that today we call the horse. In this talk, we trace the evolutionary path that reveals the history of this transformation.
DOMESTICATION OF THE HORSE
....Roger Newman
Once horses were domesticated about 6,000 years ago we have used them for work, war, and mobility in an amazing variety of ways. This talk will focus on the process of domestication and look at evidence of when, where and how it was accomplished.

THE HEALING POWER OF HORSES, FACT OR FICTION
…Barbara Rogers
As early as 600 BC in ancient Greek literature the therapeutic use of horse -back riding is noted. Now there are Schools, Camps and Associations of Equestrian or Equine-Assisted Therapy worldwide for people of all ages and circumstances. There are also Associations of Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAT) that analyze qualitative and quantitative information. Would EAT be helpful for you or someone you know? You decide.

It is hoped that those in attendance will read these articles too and share their ideas and questions.
Future monthly areas of focus will be posted here once finalized.
