Description
EASY Nature Walk along Tidal Arrowhead Marsh, great for wintering and migrating water birds at this time of year.  Can be extended for longer, faster walk. Starting at the SECOND PARKING LOT ON THE LEFT AFTER ENTERING THE PARK, this paved, flat path winds along the shoreline of Arrowhead Marsh on San Leandro Bay, a favorite stopover or wintering spot for migrating shorebirds and ducks November - March.  On this day the tide will be at its optimum height for watching birds if you wish to. Walkers can go at their own pace, fast and far for speedy walkers, and slower and not as far for the rest of us. For more detailed information, go to http://www.ebparks.org/parks/martinlking. CHALLENGING OPTION: Route can be extended for longer, faster walk.

Where to meet
We will meet at the SECOND PARKING LOT ON THE LEFT AFTER ENTERING THE PARK, at 1 Swan Way, Oakland.

What to bring

Binoculars if you have them, good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable weather.  Hiking poles are optional

How to get there:  Directions: From Rockridge BART (lots free on weekends) get on Hwy 24, to Hwy 980 to Oakland.  Merge with Hwy 880 south to Hegenberger exit.  Turn Right onto Hegenberger Road, then Turn Right onto Doolittle Dr.  Turn Right on Swan Way, and immediately turn Left to enter the park.  Park in the SECOND PARKING LOT ON THE LEFT. Restrooms are available here and at the tower.

CARPOOLS: If you need a ride please respond to walks@ashbyvillage.org giving your address or meeting point, or "to all" if you receive an email reminder of the walk.  As a last resort, email Audre (510-548-0530, audrenew@gmail.com) a few days in advance for arranging a pick up near your home or at some  BART station.  PUBLIC TRANSIT: see AC TRANSIT by calling 511, or on the internet at 511.org.
