LIFE STORY WRITING GROUP with Amy Gorman

- An Exploring Creativity Event -

Participants in the Life Story writing group will explore their stories using a guided process based on Guided Autobiography (www.guidedautobiography.com).

The purpose is to preserve life stories and experiences in the context of a supportive group.  It is not a how-to or technical writing group, but rather a supportive, motivating class to get our stories down on paper. Each week participants write two pages on a theme --- such as on family, work, health -- and are prompted with many questions provided by Amy. Then the following week participants share what they wrote in a non-judgmental, supportive positive group setting.

Requirement: Ability to use email and willingness to share email addresses and stories online.

Amy wishes to speak to anyone who is interested in or has questions about the group before they sign up.  Her email address is below.

This event is FREE for all to attend. Please consider making a gift today,, which enables Ashby Village to continue to provide such programming and support to older adults in this particular time of need.

About Amy Gorman:

The most exciting moments these days are when her adult sons say, "hey mom, you were here in the 60s. What was that like?  What do you remember about the times JFK and MLK Jr were killed?" She grew up in NYC but after arriving at UCB as an undergraduate, never looked back. Her active professional life includes years as both a social worker and speech pathologist. That’s the health side.  On the arts side, she created and managed Kidshows for almost 20 years, introducing young children to the live arts in theaters all over the Bay Area. Then she got interested in older people and interviewed them — it became a book, Aging Artfully, Profiles of Women Artists 85-105.

Amy’s interest in reminiscence and life review grew out of her interviews with aging creative women artists. She is facilitating Guided Autobiography Writing Groups for those with and without experience in the process of life review. Writing technique not needed. Just get your stories down!

Her current time is spent between 6 grandkids in the Bay Area, her husband George and phoning/texting/writing postcards and letters trying to save our democracy. www.agingartfully.com
