Monday Afternoon at the Movies
A Feature Film Discussion Group of... 20th Century Women
(120 MIN.) USA, 2016 Available on Netflix.
Inspired by the popularity of our two monthly documentary film groups, Ashby Village is launching a new virtual monthly film discussion group on narrative feature films. We will get together on the last Monday of the month, starting with Monday, April 26, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Here’s how it will work:
- In our announcements, we will let you know the title of the feature film and whether you can watch it on Netflix or Amazon.
- You will watch the film on your own before our feature film group meets.
- At our Zoom discussion, we will then talk about what we thought about the film, i.e., the themes, characters, what we liked (or not), what it made us think about, etc., etc. Should be fun and stimulating – so join us!
About the film: Mike Mills wrote and directed this very personal piece about the powerful women who shaped his life. It is the story of a teenage boy, his mother, and two other women who help raise him among the love and freedom of Southern California of 1979. It features one of the best performances of Annette Bening’s career, and she’s ably supported by a wonderful cast that includes Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, and Billy Crudup. It’s a smart, tender film about family.

Please remember to view the film on your own ahead of time and we will then discuss it together on April 26th.
