Description
A ramped observation deck looks out over the 50 acre salt marsh on this walk that was cancelled due to rain in November. There are restrooms available. The easy walk along this tidal Arrowhead Marsh (great for wintering and migrating water birds at this time of year) can be extended for longer, faster walkers - paved and level. While it is 3.7 miles out and back, we will accommodate a much shorter walk. Easy to turn around at any point, so great for all skill levels.  Walkers can go at their own pace and distance. Walk leaders will accompany, as needed.

While we need it, rain cancels!

Where to meet
We will meet at the last parking lot on the left on the access road which is reached at 1 Swan Road, Oakland. You should park where you see the viewing structure!

What to bring

Binoculars if you have them, good hiking shoes or boots, layered clothing for variable weather, water and snack.  Hiking poles are optional - trail is paved and flat. Bring your cell phone if you have one.

How to get there Directions: From Rockridge BART (lots free on weekends) get on Hwy 24, to Hwy 980 to Oakland.  Merge with Hwy 880 south to Hegenberger exit.  Turn Right onto Hegenberger Road, then Turn Right onto Doolittle Dr.  Turn Right on Swan Way, and immediately turn Left to enter the park proceed and  park in the last parking lot on the left, which is about . Restrooms are available there.

Transportation: Members can request a ride through the AV volunteer service program, or you may bring your guest who can drive and join us on the walk.
