The Events Team Presents:
~ Our Monthly Film Discussion ~

Friday Afternoon at the Movies
THE IMITATION GAME
Friday, January 20

5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Note new start time!

1 hour, 54 minutes. 2014

Please join us for our very special film discussion of The Imitation Game on Friday, January 20th at 5 p.m. Several of our participants in our last film discussion highly recommend it. Just so you know, the Events team decided to try a later time this month, to see if more people will be inclined to join us for our discussion.

You will need to see the film first on your own and then we will all get together via Zoom to discuss our reactions.

Here’s a description of the Imitation Game. It is based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing. The film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain’s top-secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II.

The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing, a mathematician who decrypted German intelligence messages for the British government during World War II. Keira Knightley, MatthewGoode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, and Mark Strong appear in supporting roles.

What does a cryptanalyst do?

Cryptanalysts design, implement, and analyze algorithms for solving problems. They analyze and decipher secret coding systems and decode messages for military, political, or law enforcement agencies or organizations.

Here’s some criteria to consider, according to a website with the intriguing title: https://filmdaft.com/the-5-key-ingredients-to-a-good-movie/ The key ingredients that make a movie “good” are when the acting, directing, writing, cinematography, and overall production value all come together to tell one cohesive, entertaining, and impactful story. In essence, a good movie uses all these tools of filmmaking to tell a compelling story.
