~ Finding your Authentic Voice ~
Saturday, May 6th, 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
One of the unusual advantages of being older is having the arc of your life to look back on. It’s the richest time of life for reflection on your experiences. When you reflect upon your past, you often find a great deal that you didn’t recognize before.
This unique perspective may help you explore your creative potential, in a new workshop conducted by Ashby Village member Linda Trichter Metcalf. We invite you to attend her intimate workshop that will introduce you to Proprioceptive Writing (PW). Through PW, you’ll learn to listen to
your thoughts with empathy and curiosity, and reflect on them imaginatively.
The workshop is for writers and non-writers alike – the practice is simple. During the workshop you will practice writing PW to music in a 25-minute session under stress-free conditions. The practice will clarify, deepen, and expand your thinking. Writing in the service of thinking is spontaneous, as-is, not composed or revised. This rewarding method brings you into an intimate relationship with yourself and the world—and leaves you with a creative record of your fleeting thoughts.
Linda Trichter Metcalf, Ph.D, is a teacher, author, and pioneer in mind exploration. In the mid-1970s, while a professor at Pratt Institute, she created the practice now internationally known as Proprioceptive Writing® to help students express their deepest thoughts and feelings. She, herself, was and remains profoundly affected by the writing practice she discovered. It awakened her to desires and to this day, it allows her to connect with her inner thoughts, a communication process which, as she says, is the source of self-trust.
Linda co-founded the Proprioceptive Writing Center, where she teaches PW and directs the PW teacher-training program. She is the co-author of Writing the Mind Alive: The Proprioceptive Method for Finding Your Authentic Voice.
Linda regularly conducts PW immersions workshops and over Zoom. For more information about current offerings, go to https://pwriting.org/
