Martin Scorsese introduces Picasso and Braque Go to the Movies by saying "It was the turn of the 20th century and the disciplines of art and film were about to converge in a way that would change our perception of the world forever." Brief comments from artists, writers, art and film historians develop this idea in a variety of ways. What is even more important is the rich visual movement between the exuberance and joy of early film clips, paintings made at the same time that deconstructed how we see, and shots of the lively culture of those years from 1907 to 1914. What we see in this film itself and in its subject matter is the enchantment with movement—any movement that characterized the first "movies" and the paintings they inspired.

Important note:  We have become aware that some of our attendees have serious reactions to perfumes and popcorn - yes, popcorn. We ask all attendees to respect these issues and leave perfumes and popcorn at home. If you are interested in bringing a snack to share with others, feel free to do so. Thank you.
