Description
The Wildcat Gorge trail winds upstream along Wildcat Creek, passing under bay, oak, and Redwood trees that line the creek.  Caves can be seen in the high, brush covered canyon walls. Our walk reverses at the foot of the dam that makes Lake Anza, where there is a small waterfall pouring out of dark rocks.   The Loop trail begins fairly level, but then begins a steady uphill when it joins Lauryl Canyon Road and goes on up to Wildcat Peak through the Rotary Peace Grove (Redwoods) and then chaparral to get to Wildcat Peak.  Great 360º views of the Bay Area.

Where to meet
We will meet in the Lone Oak Parking Lot, just beyond the porta potties.  Lone Oak Road branches off Central Park Drive just south of the junction with Canyon Drive, and just north of the Carousel.  What to bring: good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable weather.  Hiking poles are optional, but a good idea for Wildcat Peak if it has been wet.

How to get there:  Directions: From North Berkeley BART, go north on Sacramento, turn R.onto Cedar, then turn Left onto Spruce to Grizzly Peak Blvd. Cross Grizzly Peak Blvd, and turn hard left down Canyon Drive. Turn right at Central Park Drive, and Left on Lone Oak Rd. There is ample parking there, but we will meet at the far east end of the parking lot just past the porta potties at the trailhead for Wildcat Gorge Trail.
Carpools: If you need a ride or can give a ride, email Audre (510-548-0530, audrenew@gmail.com) a few days in advance for arranging a pick up near your home or at some  BART station.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: The #67 bus runs from Downtown Berkeley BART to the nearby Tilden Nature Area. See AC TRANSIT by calling 511, or on the internet at 511.org. for schedules and stops.
