The NEXT STEPS interest group in "The Hamlet" Neighborhood Group has been meeting since Jan. 2017 to
educate and prepare ourselves for continuing to live safely and comfortably in our own homes
. We have had presentations from professionals/experienced people on
legal, fiduciary and tax issues, in-home care and how to modify your home for disabilities
. We are currently working on how to
rent a room in our house
, including how to select a compatible and helpful person, and how to avoid eviction problems if it is not working out.
We have also looked at
alternate senior housing arrangements
: including
independent, assisted living and care facilities
and have visited a number of local places, also with professional guidance. It has been a very worthwhile process.
We would like to share some of our learnings with the rest of the Village and encourage others to undertake their own search which is best done in a dedicated, supportive group. Six members of our team will be on hand to present an overview and selected topics of interest, but we would like to spend a lot of time on audience questions.
There will also be
handouts
: 1) key learnings; 2) thoughts about looking for senior/care facilities based on our experiences. These will be available in advance, by request, to those who register for the event. It would be beneficial to read them prior to the meeting.
