Cesar Chavez Park and Eastshore State Park,
11 Spinnaker Way, Berkeley
When: Saturday, Feb. 6, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Description: Fantastic views may be seen from the Bay Bridge to the San Rafael Bridge, including San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, and much of Marin County’s Bay shore. There is a remote possibility of seeing a cute Burrowing Owl wintering in the northeast corner of the penninsula. On Saturdays many people fly amazing kites from the Cesar Chavez hill. Eastshore State Park’s dirt trails wind through native CA scrub habitat and along the south side of the “North Basin”, the part of SF Bay that lies west of Golden Gate Fields.
Difficulty: pretty flat. The Cesar Chavez Loop is about 1.5 miles. Wheelchair accessible. Faster walkers can extend the walk by exploring the Eastshore State Park, an additional mile.
Where: Park as close to the west end of Spinnaker Way as you can. We will meet at the parking circle which is there. Portapotties are available there.
Directions: Take University Ave west of the Interstate 80 overpass. Turn right on Marina Blvd to its northern end and turn left on Spinnaker Way. Parking should be available along both Spinnaker Way and Marina Blvd.
Carpools: If you need a ride, or can provide a ride, especially from North Berkeley BART or Rockridge BART, please post to the Nature Walks email forum.
Weather: Rain cancels. In case of drizzly or iffy weather bring umbrella and rain jacket.
Bring: Layered clothing for variable weather, walking shoes are fine, binoculars if you like birds.
