"Surface Tension" Turning My Life Into a Novel
Starting in the late 1960s and spanning thirty years, Surface Tension chronicles the lives of the Russos, an Italian-American family of six. We follow the matriarch Loretta, her husband Carl, and their children, through deaths, births, infidelity, and divorce. The story explores themes of acceptance, love, and disappointment as they struggle through the differing points of view between the first generation and their Baby Boomer kids.
We witness their interactions as they contend with unconventional relationships, the AIDS crisis, and plenty of extended family chiming in. Surface Tension navigates the ups and downs of the Russos' lives as if they're still surprised that life doesn't always turn out and people don't always behave the way we'd like, but through it all, family remains family.
