About this event

Armchair National History Club

Three Ashby Village families invite you to join us once a month indoors at a wheelchair accessible home to learn more about whatever natural history topics fascinate us. The sponsoring families are Joan and Don Bernstein, Roger and Audre Newman and Tim Gordon and Donna Mickelson.  Each of us has been involved with the natural world in various ways--including bird watching, leading nature walks for kids and adults, creating gardens, chasing fireflies for hours on hot summer nights, and just observing animals and plants for much of our lives. We have simply found an endless supply of interesting topics and activities in exploring the variety of phenomena that manifest in the natural world, and we would like to share this interest with other members of Ashby Village.

We had such a good time last month reading aloud from "My Family And Other Animals" that we are doing another read-aloud this month. I've recently heard from 2 different people that they found the video "My Life as a Turkey" fascinating. When Audre recommended the book that is the basis for video as a topic for our group, she became the third person to praise the work to me in a short period of time.

As before, homework is optional.

The book is "Illumination in the Flatwoods: A Season with the Wild Turkey" by Joe Hutto. It's available in paperpack.

Time: Saturday, March 16th 10 am- noon
Followed By: Optional bag lunch 12-1pm
