Special "Highlights" Tour of the Oakland Museum
Starting Thursday, March 26, 1-2:30PM

Claudette Sigg, Docent at the Oakland Museum, is offering special tours for Ashby Village members, beginning Thursday, March 26, 1-2:30pm.

A visit to the Oakland Museum to see the "Art of Burning Man” turned into a lucky break. Oakland Museum docent and Ashby Village member Claudette Sigg was just starting her "impromptu" tour of the exhibit. Claudette has been a docent at OM for more than 25 years, and is trained to give tours in the History, Art, and Natural History galleries.

Second only to interacting with visitors, Claudette enjoys learning about each new exhibit. The result was a fabulous tour, informative as well as entertaining.  Claudette not only steered us to the most spectacular installations, but also gave us a brief history, introduced us to some of the movers and shakers, and clued us in on the organization of the huge site, and the management of hundreds of thousands of participants.

Claudette has a wonderful breadth of knowledge as a result, in part, from her years as a docent, and a delightfully rich life. She has been a ballet dancer, a teacher, and the founder and leader of the Scottish Dancers here in the Bay Area, among others.

Claudette invites Ashby Village members to schedule a "Highlights" tour of the Oakland Museum with her on Thursday, March 26.  Her ‘adventurous’ tour, sub-titled, “A 13,000 Year Old Cold Case Mystery with an ancient corpse and What It Has To Do With the 6th Extinction!" covers the three galleries.

This tour would be free of charge for a group of up to 12 Ashby Village members if arranged directly with her. It would otherwise require an extra fee if requested through the museum office. There will be more tours coming up of OMCA's special exhibits which Claudette could lead for AV members—such as a Dorothea Lange tour—or a tour dealing with the mysteries of mapping (newly opened in the Natural Sciences gallery and absolutely fascinating). Also coming up is a major exhibit, "Hella Feminist” which probably will be another blockbuster. “The latter is an exhibit which every woman will want to see—and every man should see!” says Claudette.

Many AV members are members of OM, and others have reciprocal memberships at other local museums, so a group of us could go quite inexpensively. We could also arrange casual carpools to help with transportation.  If you are interested in accepting Claudette's generous invitation, just email Shirley Jowell <sjowell@sbcglobal.net> or call 510-525-7012.

Please indicate if you have a membership in OMCA or another that has reciprocal privileges, and whether you need or could help with a car pool.  See you at the Oakland Museum!
