Description: March near Jewel Lake is a very pretty time, with flowering shrubs and migrating birds coming though.  If it is wet, we may even find colorful mushrooms. There are a variety of trails to choose from, from totally flat easy ones to a steep, challenging climb to Wildcat Peak, for sweeping Bay Area views and a total of almost 5 mi for those wanting more of a workout.

When: Sunday, March 8, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Where: Meet in front of the Tilden Nature Center (EEC), at the northern end of Central Park Drive in Tilden Park.

Bring: Layered clothing for variable weather, hiking boots or trail shoes; hiking poles if you use them on hikes and if it has been wet.

Directions: From North Berkeley take Spruce St to top at Grizzly Peak Blvd; cross the intersection with Grizzly Peak Blvd and go downhill to the left immediately on Canon Rd. At the bottom of Canon turn left onto Central Park Drive, and park in the parking lot. Walk to the north end of the parking lot, and beyond to the Nature Center.

Carpools: If you can provide a ride, especially from North Berkeley BART or Rockridge BART, please post to the Nature Walks email forum. And post to the forum (or write Audre) if you need a ride and from where.

Transit: From downtown Berkeley the # 67 bus takes 15 min. to get to the Nature Center.

Weather: Real rain cancels. In case of drizzly or iffy weather bring umbrella and rain jacket. The trails are sheltered and the park is lovely in and after a rain.  The trail to Wildcat Peak gets too muddy in wet weather so we’ll cancel that one.
