Who Will Care for Me?

Seventy percent of those over 65 will need some period of long-term care, ranging from a few months to up to five years. Without private long-term care insurance, which is very costly and which most people do not have, we are reliant on family members or friends to provide the care we will need. In California alone, there are 4.7 million family caregivers, mostly women.

Donna Schempp will address the issues that family caregivers face on a daily basis as well as the resources that are (and are not) available to support them. Schempp has worked in the field of aging for the past 30 years. For the ten years before retiring, she was Program Director at Family Caregiver Alliance.
