Blindness 101: Training for Ashby Village Volunteers TRAINING
The LightHouse Training is intended to provide information and resources offered by LightHouse as a supplement to the basic training volunteers receive through Ashby Village. This training is beneficial for all areas of member service request fulfillment and especially Tech Team and those who provide tech support to members, Home Safety Assessment, Decluttering Team and Medpals.
Come hear more about vision changes and blindness, things that may impact the clients who you work with. We will be discussing blindness etiquette, dispelling some of the blindness myths (including helplessness), and more about LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. (Note: LightHouse uses “blind” as a catch-all identity, not everyone may identify as blind, but anyone who works with someone with vision changes will benefit from this training). Presenters are Sheri Albers, Community Outreach Coordinator, and Allyson Ferrari, Volunteer Manager.
LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired is headquartered in San Francisco, and has an office in Berkeley, CA. You can find us online at: https://lighthouse-sf.org/
