Where:
Redwood Regional Park, West Ridge Trail, Skyline Gate, 8490 Skyline Blvd., Oakland
Open to:
Members & volunteers
Accessibility:
Not wheelchair accessible
Description:
Easy to moderately challenging, depending on your speed and the trails selected. The West Ridge Trail is a wide dirt road which gently undulates through tall Monterey pines, redwoods, oaks and bay trees. Beautiful panoramic views can be seen occasionally.
Where to meet:
We will meet in the parking lot at The Skyline Gate to Redwood
Regional Park, 8490 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA. There is an accessible toilet there.
What to bring:
Good hiking shoes or boots for the trails, layered clothing for variable
weather, water, windbreaker, snacks. Hiking poles are optional, but always a good
idea for the longer option.
How to get there:
Drive south on Hwy 13 (toward Hayward). Exit Right at Park Blvd
and turn Left at the traffic light (Park Blvd).
Cross over the overpass, and turn Left again on Mountain Blvd. At the 2nd traffic light turn Right onto Snake Rd.
After 0.2 miles, proceed straight ahead on curvy Shepherd Canyon Rd. for
approximately 2 miles (Snake turns abruptly left: don’t follow it).
Turn Right at Skyline Drive.
After about 0.3 miles, turn Left into the parking lot at the Skyline Gate Parking lot, 8490 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA.
It should take about 25 minutes to get there from Hwy 80 at University Ave. in
Berkeley. It’s a popular walk, so if there are no open parking spaces, park on the
east side of Skyline Blvd.
Carpools:
If you need a ride or can give a ride, call (510-548-0530) or email Audre (audrenew@gmail.com) a few days in advance for arranging a pickup near your home or at a BART station. PUBLIC TRANSIT: see AC TRANSIT by calling 511, or on the internet at 511.org.
